ADA Merritt Elementary School was opened in the year of 2001. It holds classes from Kindergarten – 5th grade. The School’s is equipped with a total of 41 classrooms which provide a learning environment to the 478 students that attend ADA Merritt Elementary. As the region's first "commuter" school, Ada Merritt is open to students from Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties. The curriculum was created to expand multilingual education and increase opportunities for students to become bilingual and biliterate. The instructional program includes the highly rated Dual language Program and the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program. In addition, students pursuing English/Spanish proficiency will have the opportunity to enter the Spanish Section of the International Studies (IS) Program (1st through 5th grades).
Rockway Middle School opened its doors in 1959 and holds grades 6th -8th. This Middle School has a total enrollment of 1,496 students with a Student/Teacher Ratio of 24.9. The School is located in a suburban community with an ethnic population of 92 percent Hispanic, 7 percent White, and 1 percent Asian. Sixty Teachers form part of the Rockway Middle School's administration, faculty and staff. From 2002-2005 Rockway was rated an "A" school by the Florida Department of Education. Overall, Rockway Middle School is a school of excellence with their academics, clubs, extra curricular activities, award winning chess program and sports. They keep their students focused and motivated toward winning goals.
South Dade Senior High School is composed of 60 acres and opened its doors in 1952. It is located in the southernmost end of Miami-Dade County, Florida. This High School currently operates with 88 classrooms and a total of approximately 2729 students. The Student/Teacher Ratio is 22.1. Its 123 teachers teach students from the 9th - 12th grade. South Dade High School is an unique, dynamic community that is both multi-cultural and multi-ethnic and of varied socioeconomic levels. The student’s population swelled from 2237 in October 1998 to 2816 in October 2002.
The "open campus" concepts consists of many entrances, exits, and long corridors that provide a cozy natural feel. The school ensures a safe environment for learning by assigning six full time, two part time security guards to patrol the halls and to monitor security cameras that have been place around the campus. Forty-six school support staff members, including full time cafeteria, custodial, mechanical, security, clerical, and paraprofessional staff assist in the smooth operation of the school.
